Ferrandis takes career-first MX2 category clean sweep.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Nagl claimed his first MXGP overall victory of the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship season in Loket for round 13 of the series.
Nagl kicked off the vent by capturing the opening moto victory ahead of current series leader, Tim Gajser, with defending champion Romain Febvre in third followed by Jeremy Van Horebeek and Clement Desalle.
Moto two of the premier class saw Honda Gariboldi’s Gajser push the pace during moto two, eventually falling and handing the overall victory and clean sweep to Nagl.
Febvre, on return from a recent concussion, was strong throughout the event with a pair of third place moto finishes to round out the overall podium behind Nagl and Gajser.
Rounding out the top five overall it was Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Desalle with a pair of fourth place finishes and Van Horebeek in fifth using a 4-5 moto scorecard.
Premier class rookie Gajser continues to lead the championship by 109 points over multi-time champion Antonio Cairoli in second, Nagl in third, Febvre in fourth and Evgeny Bobryshev in fifth.
In the MX2 category series leader Jeffrey Herlings of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing outfit was forced out of the event due to a broken collarbone, leaving the door wide open for a new overall winner to take the top step of the series.
It was his teammate, Pauls Jonass, who claimed the holeshot in moto one before coming under pressure from Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Dylan Ferrandis on the opening lap.
Jonass then crashed heavily allowing Ferrandis to capture the moto lead and run away with the victory ahead of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Anstie in second, Jeremy Seewer in third, Benoit Paturel in fourth and Brian Bogers rounding out the top five.
Moto two saw Anstie apply pressure to Ferrandis early in the race, but it was Ferrandis who held on to the lead and captured his very first clean sweep in the MX2 category.
Seewer was second overall on the day with a 3-2 moto scorecard with Anstie claiming the final podium spot thanks to his 2-3 moto finish combination.
Herlings continues to lead the MX2 championship by 127 points over Seewer in second position followed by teammate Jonass in third, Paturel in fourth and Ferrandis in fifth.
The 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship will now head to the deep sands of Lommel for round 14 of the series on 31 July.
