Dunlop dominates MX Nationals at Conondale

Dunlop Tyres press release:

Dunlop-shod racers have dominated the 2016 MX Nationals Australian Motocross Championship round at Conondale in Queensland on Sunday, winning the MX1, MX2 and MXD championship categories in challenging rainy weather.

CDR Yamaha’s former MXGP regular Dean Ferris braved the wet, technical conditions best to take out his fourth Super Pole in a row and second-consecutive MX1 overall, claiming second in the opening moto before a win in moto two clinched him the round win.

Also on the podium was defending champion and points leader Kirk Gibbs (KTM Motocross Racing Team) in third, giving him a six-point advantage in the series over Ferris so far. Also in the top five on Sunday was Jacob Wright (DPH Motorsport Yamaha), fifth overall.

The MX2 weekend was won by Jed Beaton (DPH Motorsport Yamaha) with a hard-fought 2-1 scorecard, establishing himself as the benchmark in the conditions. He’s now moved to within seven points of the series lead. Caleb Ward (KTM Motocross Racing Team) finished a notable fourth.

In MXD it was Mitchell Evans (Yamalube Yamaha Racing) who starred in the mud with a commanding clean-sweep, now just 13 points outside of the title lead. He was joined on the rostrum by teammate Jordan Hill in third for the weekend.

“With Dean and Kirk taking first and third overall in the MX1 class, plus Jed’s overall win in the MX2 class, this round was another successful result for Dunlop,” commented Dunlop national motorcycle manager Sabastian Mincone. “And to cap it off we also saw Mitchell Evans and Jordan Hill take an overall 1-3 in the MXD class. My congratulations to all the riders who gained podium places.”

The eighth round of the 2016 MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, will be contested at Shepparton in Victoria on Sunday, 31 July.
