The National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team is eagerly anticipating the return of the picturesque Conondale circuit in Queensland to the 2016 MX Nationals championship on Sunday, 17 July.

The series returns to the rolling natural terrain motocross track after a hiatus and Kawasaki racers Matt Moss, Kade Mosig and Jake Moss are looking forward to recommencing battle on the iconic circuit.

Conondale has been a happy hunting ground for multiple Australian Motocross Champion Matt Moss. The 28-year-old MX1 racer claimed the overall there in 2013 and was just beaten to the top of the podium the last time the series visited the circuit in 2014.

Fresh off an inspired outing at Nowra two weeks ago where he finished second overall on countback, Moss is eager to continue building the momentum. Currently ranked fourth in the championship hunt, Moss knows he needs to win as many races as possible to close the gap.

“Nowra was disappointing because I felt like I should’ve won the overall there, but I was happy that my speed and fitness were right we I need to be,” Moss explained. “I’m really looking forward to Sunday, though. The weather looks like it could be a bit mixed, but I enjoy racing in the mud and the track is one of my favourites. All in all it’s shaping up to be a great day and I’m ready to get my campaign back on track.”

Also in the MX1 class, Moss’s teammate, Kade Mosig is excited to return to what he describes as ‘a real motocross track’. Mosig finished fourth overall at the last round at Nowra and finds himself placed in fifth in the standings, but still well within striking distance of the front-runners.

“I love Conondale, it’s a real authentic motocross track and has everything,” Mosig enthused. “It’s fast, open, there’s a mixture of grass and clay, off-cambers, hills, tight sections, it’s got it all and it’s great to see it back on the calendar this year. For me, I need to knuckle down and show everyone what I can do. The confidence is there and the focus is where it needs to be, so it’s simply a matter of putting everything together on the track and putting my KX450F on top of the podium.”

Meanwhile, National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s MX2 pilot Jake Moss is looking to put a heartbreaking Nowra round behind him and turn his fortunes around on Sunday. Moss suffered two first-turn crashes at the sixth round, with the latter incident resulting in a DNF.

The result has seen him slip to eighth on the MX2 points charts, but Jake is confident he can turn the tables and find the consistent form he enjoyed during the first half of this year’s MX Nationals season.

“I’ve had a really good couple of weeks and feel like I’ve prepared really well for this weekend,” he stated. “While Nowra was disappointing, I was the fastest in qualifying and I actually felt great all day. On the positive side I’m 100 percent healthy and I love the Conondale track. It should be a great day of racing.”

The gates will open at 7:30am for Sunday’s seventh round of the 2016 MX Nationals at Conondale. Tickets are available at the gate.
