Yamaha the top-selling off-road brand to date in 2016

Off-road motorcycle sales have increased by 4.3 percent in the first half of 2016 compared to the same period last year, signifying a strong result for the industry locally and a 31.2 percent share of the market.
Yamaha maintained its lead in the off-road motorcycle market, selling 29 percent of the 16,492 motorcycles sold. It was followed by Honda (24.9 percent), KTM (16.3 percent), Kawasaki (12.5 percent) and Suzuki (11.3 percent).
The top-selling motocross model to date in 2016 is Yamaha’s YZ450F, closely trailed by the YZ250F, while Kawasaki’s KX450F and KX250F are in positions three and four. Fifth overall at the moment is Honda’s CRF250R.
Leading enduro model is the Yamaha WR450F, on top of a host of KTM models – the 350 EXC-F, 500 EXC-F, 300 EXC and 450 EXC-F. That saw the Yamaha WR250F remain top of the quarter-litres, in sixth overall.
Overall, Honda was the leading volume manufacturer again with 23.2 percent of the market, followed by Yamaha with 20.1 percent and Kawasaki at 10.1 percent. Suzuki and Harley-Davidson had an 8.9 percent share each.
