The fourth and final round of the 2016 Victorian junior MX championships have been run and won this last weekend at Mildura and YJR Victoria was right in the thick of the action. The North West Victorian club had groomed the track to perfection and both Liam Andrews and Cody Dyce were primed to put their YZ’s up the front.

Saturday action was for the 125 riders and Cody was still trying to claw back points from a mishap at round one. An overall series podium was the goal and that’s what Cody was able to do. Race one was a tough one after a mid-pack start clawing his way back to fifth. Race two and Cody got away to a far better start and bought his 125 home in second. Race three was another tough race with an average start making it difficult for himself on a track which proved tricky to pass on. His results of 5-2-4 was enough for second for the day and third in 2016 A grade 125 championship.

Sunday’s action was for the 250’s and 85BW classes. The track was groomed to perfection once again overnight for day two.

Liam was coming into the final round 4th in points but full of confidence of improving on that after some recent results at Gippsland series had Liam win all before him. Race one saw a number of riders hit the deck in turn one and Liam managed to miss the carnage. After lap one and in 5th position Liam charged up to 2nd even making a move for the lead on the last lap but a small fall cost him the chance at the win. Liam quickly remounted crossing the line in 2nd.

Races two and three Liam had some great battles and he finished with two thirds, even setting the fastest lap of race two, to show the huge gains in his riding lately. Liam took third for the day and third in the series which was a fantastic result in such a stacked field.

“I’m so pumped with today’s riding,” Andrews offered. “This was easily the best I’ve ridden this year and I think I showed I belong at the front. Dad has been working hard on my bike and it was really singing today so thank you to him and the whole YJR team and our sponsors.”

Cody was racing his 250 and defending his 24 point lead in the final round. Some great starts and even better riding in race one he got off to the perfect start to the day. Race two Cody had a great battle with main rival Callum Norton coming out on top for another race win and doing enough to win the championship with a race to go. With the pressure off and some suspension adjustments before the last race and on a rapidly drying track Cody rode to another comfortable race win to show why he has defended the #1 plate once again.

“That’s one of my goals ticked off for the year so thank you so much to all who support me,” Dyce said. “I have the MX rookies, Australian Junior Champs and Junior world champs in Russia coming up over the next few months and I really want to do well in all of those so I will keep working hard and hope to keep this momentum going. Bring it on.”

“What a great series both boys raced,” stated team manager, Cameron Taylor. “Liam showed so much improvement throughout this championship and I’m really looking forward to watching Liam perform later in the year at Australian Champs.

Cody rode flawlessly today and showed his true metal. After some below par races earlier in the series really got Cody fired up to go to work and get back to his dominating self and he is worthy of his number 1 plate,” Taylor ends.

Also at the final round where interstate YJR team mates, Michael Driscoll from NSW as well as Alex Larwood from South Australia. Driscoll finished in second place for the round on his 250cc making it a YJR 1-2, while Larwood took fourth on his 85cc in another fine performance.
