Wilson and Long snatch up championship points for the Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team
Team Honda Racing press release:
Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team’s Dylan Long and Jay Wilson have collected valuable championship points ahead of the mid-season break commencing, at round five of the 2016 Motul MX Nationals at Wanneroo in Western Australia over the weekend.
With Wilson and Long heading in to the round well and truly within the top ten of a talent packed MX1 class, both riders took to the difficult track conditions well, recording consistent results and a top five race finish to boot.
For Long, race one handed himself and the team the best result of the day. Riding his CRF450 Honda machine to an impressive 5th place, before taking 7th and 8th in the following two motos to wrap up the round in 6th overall.
“I was relatively happy with the weekend – I raced well in the first two motos but in the final race of the day I crashed and that effected my overall result for the day,” Long shared.
“The track at Wanneroo was very rough and deep on the weekend. We had a look at the circuit at the end of the day, and it was crazy to see what we were racing on.
“We are improving every weekend we go racing and I’m fit and healthy, so I’m happy to head in to the mid-season break sitting in sixth in the championship, and looking forward to coming back in the second half of the season swinging.”
For Wilson who will head in to surgery this Wednesday to have his injured wrist repaired, round five delivered improved results. After collecting 8th in race one, Wilson battled to 9th and 7th in the following two motos, handing the Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team with 9th overall.
“Round five was tough for me. The track seemed to have a harder base than the other times that I’ve raced there, and a lot of those sharp edges and braking bumps aggravated my wrist a lot,” he said.
“The goal at round five for me was just to get as many championship points as I could before I head in to have surgery, and we managed to achieve that.
“The mid-season break will be good for us – I need some time to heal up and regroup, and hopefully in the second half of the season I can start getting myself into a better position in the championship and put some better results on the board.”
With the Motul MX Nationals now commencing a five week break from racing, Long now sits in an impressive 6th place in the overall championship standings, while Wilson holds on to 8th position.
The Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team will now head in to the mid-season break, with round six of the Motul MX Nationals being held at Nowra in New South Wales on July 3, 2016.
