Honda Gariboldi rookie Tim Gajser and Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Dylan Ferrandis have taken the MXGP World Championship pole positions at Talavera in Spain.

Gajser won the qualifying heat on Saturday to cement pole in the premier MXGP class, ahead of Max Nagl (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) and Evgeny Bobryshev (Team HRC Honda).

Another rookie Valentin Guillod (Yamaha) crossed the line fourth over Clement Desalle (Monster Energy Kawasaki), as Antonio Cairoli (Red Bull KTM) was sixth. World champion Romain Febvre (Monster Energy Yamaha) was a non-finisher.

In the MX2 division it was Ferrandis who led from the outset and eventually scored pole ahead of Pauls Jonass (Red Bull KTM) and Benoit Paturel (Yamaha), with title leader Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM) fourth.

In EMX250 Bodo Schmidt Motorsports’ Thomas Kjer Olsen extended his championship lead, while Australia’s Hunter Lawrence was a lap down in 35th.
