Raceline Pirelli KTM press release:
Raceline Pirelli KTM riders Wade Kirkland and Dylan Wills continued to make steady but impressive progress at round four of the 2016 MX Nationals at Murray Bridge in South Australia yesterday, with a top ten finish and round podium to boot.
With an interesting combination of the loamy, yet hard based surface at Murray Bridge, riders’ skill sets across all classes were put to the test, with both Kirkland and Wills doing their best to rise to the occasion in order to put their KTM machines on top.
After the team secured its first round podium finish at round three, it was a consecutive podium finish from Kirkland in the Pirelli MXD class yesterday – racing to 4th in moto one and 3rd in moto two, to conclude round four in second place overall.
For MX2 pilot Wills, round four also dished out some improved results, racing to 7th in race one and 6th in race two, to finish racing at Murray Bridge with a solid 7th overall.
As the series now heads west to Wanneroo, Wills sits in 8th in the MX2 championship standings, while Kirkland holds down an impressive second position in the Pirelli MXD championship as the Under 19’s class commence their mid-season break.
Wade Kirkland – MXD – (4th, 3rd) 2nd Overall
“I’m really happy to finish another round on the podium. Being my first year in seniors I’m still learning, but we’re making progress every round,” he said.
“The track was quite technical at Murray Bridge so I really tried to find some different lines and just make up positions wherever I could.
“I’m still sitting in second in the Pirelli MXD Championship which I’m really happy with, so I’ll just keep plugging away, try and stay consistent, and finish as many rounds as I can on the podium”.
Dylan Wills – MX2 – (7th, 6th) 7th Overall
“I’m pretty happy with the weekend, especially moto one. I got a decent start but someone cartwheeled going into turn one and his bike landed right in my way causing me to stop,” Wills shared.
“I went over the finish line 17th on lap one, and I felt my passes could’ve been a bit quicker than they were, but from what I’ve heard I wasn’t the only one struggling to pass on that track.
“I ended up pushing through to 7th and closing up onto the back of Jake Moss after being 17 seconds behind him which I was happy with.
“The result on the weekend wasn’t exactly what I wanted, but I was happy to push through. I feel like my fitness is where it needs to be and my bike is great, just my intensity needs to be better – but equal 6th on the day is good, and we made four spots in the championship!”
Chris Woods – Raceline Pirelli KTM Team Manager
“It was another solid weekend for us as a team, we are gelling with the new bike a lot more, and the results are improving every time we go racing,” he said.
“Wade is an absolute cracker of a rider, and to finish another round on the podium and to be sitting in second in the MXD championship is fantastic.
“Dylan is also chipping away and getting better every time we go racing as well. As soon as he’s with the front guys he can run with them – he’s got the speed so it’s all coming together.
“With back to back rounds this weekend, it’s a big job getting everything organised but both of our mechanics have been holding everything together, and they have played a big part in the team’s success so far this year.
“With the MXD class not racing in WA, Wade will now get in to this mid-season break and some more riding, and for Dylan it’s going to game on in the deep sand of Wanneroo this weekend, which we’re all looking forward to.”
Raceline Pirelli KTM’s Dylan Wills, will now prepare for Round 5 of the 2016 MX Nationals at Wanneroo in Western Australia being held from May 28-29.
