ROCKSTAR MAXIMA HONDA RACING:
Rockstar Maxima Honda Racing’s Michael Byrne is satisfied with his first hit out in the Australiasian SuperX series, having only landed in Australia on the Wednesday prior to round two.
The lack of preparation resulted in a mixed race day with flashes of brilliance harmed only by some poor starts and bad luck.
In the mad one lap dash that was the man on man gate selection race, a slow start left Craig Anderson with an unassailable lead.
Once the points racing began, Byrne found himself outside the top five early in race one and had to work hard to find a way up to fourth.
In race two while leading, he crashed but recovered to finish fourth once again.
Another tardy start in race three ensured the Queenslander would get a good look at much of the field as he yet again worked his way up- this time from tenth to fourth.
In the fourth and final race he was uncermoniously knocked down in an incident that left him with a “dead arm”and no chance of rejoining the race. It was a disappointing end to what had been a promising and points rich afternoon.
Byrne is now 13th overall, having not contested round one in Tasmania.
Michael Byrne:
“I’ve been behind the eight ball since I got here on Wednesday. I’m on a bike I’ve never ridden before, on tyres I’ve never ridden before- nothing is familiar for me right now. We made pretty good progress with the bike as the weekend went on and the more laps I got the better I got. It was a rough weekend, but hopefully we can progress.”
