As the 2016 Motul MX Nationals rolls into Broadford, Victoria, on Sunday, the National Pump Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team is primed and ready to do battle in both the MX1 and MX2 classes.

After claiming the points lead at the series opener, former MX1 champion Matt Moss heads into the third round 10 points adrift of the series lead after battling through illness at Appin two weeks ago.

The untimely spell sapped his energy and he was forced to settle for fifth overall on the day, but now that he’s back to a full bill of health, Moss is eager to make amends and put the 2016 Kawasaki KX450F back on top.

“Broadford is probably my favourite track on the circuit, with the hills and how tough it gets,” the multiple national champion explained. “I’ve shaken the illness that affected me at Appin and am back riding and feeling great; I’m looking forward to getting out there on Sunday and swinging the momentum back in my favour.”

For Moss’s MX1 teammate Kade Mosig, Broadford is the home round of the championship. After two tough outings that see him positioned in sixth in the title chase, the 26-year-old Victorian is hungry for a big points haul on Sunday.

“I love Broadford and I’m really looking forward to putting in a strong performance on home soil,” he said. “It’s always one of the toughest of the series with the hills and with the way the track breaks down during the day. It’ll be interesting to see how they prepare the track, but I’m excited to have the opportunity to race in front of my home crowd.”

Meanwhile, Jake Moss has been a revelation in the MX2 class astride the KX250F. After a third overall at Horsham then a second in the opening race at Appin, Moss has established himself as one of the bolters in the highly-competitive class. Broadford, he says, is an opportunity to cement himself further as one of the title favourites despite minor injuries sustained at round two.

“I got my first moto win on a 450 at Broadford in 2014 and I’ve always enjoyed the circuit,” Moss commented. “It’s expected to rain over the next couple of days so I’m hoping that it develops plenty of ruts and gets rough because those are the conditions that I enjoy the most. I’m all healed up after my crash at Appin and am feeling great on the KX250F.”

Sunday will herald the final time that the Motul MX Nationals will visit the technical, hillside Broadford track an hour north of Melbourne. Gates will open on Sunday at 7:30am and tickets are available at the venue.
