A selection of Australia’s best freestyle motocross athletes will converge on the immortal Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas in Madrid for the 2016 Red Bull X-Fighters event on 24 June, marking the 15th anniversary of the competition being staged in the Spanish capital city.

Leading the charge will be Australia’s Clinton Moore, the 2015 champion will be back battling in the famous bullring against a stacked field including three-time winner Tom Pagès of France.

Fellow Australian riders contesting the one and only Red Bull X-Fighters event for 2016 alongside Moore include 2014 X-Fighters champion Josh Sheehan and Rob Adelberg.

With a special new format in Madrid, the event will also give two “Novilleros”, a term for an aspiring young bullfighting in Spain getting their first taste of the ring, to compete in the action.

These riders now have the opportunity to win a spot in the competition by sending in a video of their best tricks. The public will have the chance to select by popular vote the first rider and the Red Bull X-Fighters sport committee will select the second newcomer.

A new jam session format will also feature in 2016, with riders performing their own series of tricks in a roulette round. Each group will spin a roulette with the names of established tricks from the sport’s history and all four riders in the round will have to perform that trick.

The competition kicks off on Thursday, 21 June with a qualifying session which will define three groups of four riders who will compete in the opening jam session format.
