Slips to P8 in MX1 standings following costly Appin moto two crash.
KTM Racing Team’s Kirk Gibbs has confirmed he’s avoided serious injury after crashing out of moto two at Appin’s second round of the 2025 Penrite ProMX Championship, with scans revealing minor shoulder damage.
Gibbs was in strong form during the opening moto, running second behind early leader Luke Clout for much of the race before crossing the line in P5.
In moto two, the veteran looked poised for a solid result once again, rounding turn one in second behind teammate Nathan Crawford. However, a small mistake saw him hit the ground hard, resulting in a non-finish.
“Obviously, in the second moto I got off to a decent start there and came round that first turn, it was all my fault – I just got a little bit excited on the throttle and the bike stepped out from underneath me and put me on the ground,” Gibbs told MotoOnline.
“It’s funny, I fell on my left side, which is definitely a bit banged up, but my right shoulder is the one that’s giving me a little bit of the issues. I’ve had some scans and tests on my shoulder with Steve Andrews and there’s a little tear in there, but all in all, it looks like it’ll just be a few days off the bike, then I’ll get back into it.”
The DNF sees Gibbs slip to eighth in the MX1 standings, now 44 points behind series leader Jed Beaton heading into round three at Gillman.
