Pain too severe to push through despite making Superpole.
An injured leg sustained in a practice crash leading into Appin’s Penrite ProMX round kept Maximus Purvis (Monster Energy CDR Yamaha) on the sidelines for the motos, with the pain too severe to compete with despite posting the eighth-fastest time in the morning’s Superpole session.
Purvis gained entry into Superpole by setting the fourth-fastest qualifying time early in the day, however, when it came time to race, the decision was made by he and the team that the 30-minute motos would be too much for the Kiwi to handle.
The number 145 subsequently remained parked under the team’s transporter for the second round of the season, with more information set to detail the extent of the injury in the days to follow.
“I crashed during the week and have some pain at the top of my shin, under my knee cap,” commented Purvis. “I tried to ride but [was] getting some sharp pain at certain points or positions, so it was better to just sit this one out, find out some more information on what’s happened and take it from there.
“Hopefully, I can be back on track at Gillman and ready to go for round three.”
Purvis is filling in for the injured Aaron Tanti at the team, with the opening four rounds of Penrite ProMX described as a trial run for the New Zealander. He faces a tight turnaround for the next round in Gillman, which takes place on April 27.
