New Zealand MX1 champion ahead of CDR Yamaha opportunity.
New Zealander Maximus Purvis has been a highly talked about name during the past few weeks as he prepares to step into Monster Energy CDR Yamaha while filling in for the injured Aaron Tanti. Now, with the 2025 New Zealand Motocross Championship MX1 title checked off the list, Purvis has his sights set on delivering for the Dack-led Australian organisation. MotoOnline caught up with him ahead of this weekend’s ProMX 2025 opener for this Fast Thoughts interview feature.
Wrapping up the NZMX MX1 title…
It felt good to get another one, for sure. I had a bit of a crash on the bike and hurt the ribs and shoulder and whatnot, but it’s still wasn’t too bad, so after that it was just about finishing the job, pretty much. I was still able to put it on the box every race and do what I had to do to just finish it off.
The mindset of racing the final round injured…
I ended up breaking four ribs and doing a little bit of damage to my AC joint in my shoulder. I mean, I wasn’t going to sit at home and throw it away, so to me it was just about muscling through and doing what I had to do to win the title. I don’t know, the injury didn’t really change much for me, I just had to fight through a little bit of pain.
Feelings ahead of ProMX opener at Wonthaggi…
I’m definitely feeling good. It felt good to wrap that title up again at home and I’m looking forward to a full season of MX1 in Australia. I’m keen to get in and have a go and have some good races with the boys over here.
The opportunity to ride for CDR Yamaha…
It feels good to be able to get on this time and have a go. I want to try and put it on the box with them and have a good crack and see what I can do. I’ve always had a good yarn with Dacka, so it’ll be good to actually ride for him and see his approach to everything, I’m keen to see that side of it.
Goals for ProMX 2025…
I just want to get good motos in and get good starts. I want to try and put it on the box every round, pretty much – that’s my goal. We’ll see how I get on, but I reckon I can definitely win some races, so I’ll put my best foot forward and we’ll see what happens.
