The race format for this year’s Penrite ProMX season-opener at Wonthaggi has been revealed ahead of the new championship commencing this weekend, with the two-day event featuring qualifying on Saturday and racing on Sunday across the regular categories.

Adopting a more traditional two-day format akin to previous season finales, Saturday will feature both practice and qualifying sessions for the MX1, MX2, and MX3 classes, while MX85 and MXW will each have their first of two motos on day one.

With qualifying concluding on Saturday, a series of warm-ups will open Sunday’s proceedings, before the top 10 premier class MX1 riders will be on-track for the Pole Shootout, with all motos to follow soon after.

Different iterations of the two-day schedule have been in play throughout the ProMX seasons, with a three-moto format split with one moto on Saturday and two on Sunday occurring as recently as last year’s mid-season Maitland round.

The newly-introduced two-day format at Wonthaggi is more in line with the schedules seen at previous final rounds with a bolstered track schedule, which doubles as an opportunity to build anticipation throughout Saturday, with the gates to drop on the regular series classes come Sunday.
