Wilson second as Beaton lands maiden SX1 podium in South Australia.
Joey Savatgy’s triumph at the Boost Mobile Supercross Sprint in Adelaide marked his third-straight overall victory in the 2024 Fox Australian Supercross Championship, the American import extending his SX1 points lead in South Australia.
The Quadlock Honda Racing entry put on a commanding performance in the city of churches to record a 1-10-1-2 scorecard, his only major blemish coming in the second final after coming together with rival Luke Clout (Empire Kawasaki), where the duo were forced to untangle their bikes before resuming.
It was a night of what could have been for defending champion Dean Wilson (Honda Racing) despite finishing second overall with a pair of race wins to his name, the number one failing to capitalise on Savatgy’s misfortune as his points deficit grew to eight.
CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Jed Beaton broke through to earn his first-ever SX1 podium, the Tasmanian native registering 5-2-7-3 results across the four finals to narrowly edge out Clout for the final spot on the podium.
Pole-sitter Clout started strongly by finishing P2 in the opening encounter, although troubles with Savatgy in race two combined with a challenging showing in the final outing meant he damaged his title hopes, as P4 overall pushed him back to 17 points behind the series leader.
Honda Racing duo Aaron Tanti and Kyle Webster – his first AUSX appearance of the season – were fifth and sixth respectively, while the top 10 was rounded by Matt Moss (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy), Brett Metcalfe (Penrite Go24), Hayden Mellross (KTM), and Nathan Crawford (KTM Racing Team).
The Australian Supercross Championship is set to be decided at the AUSX Open Supercross scheduled for 30 November inside Marvel Stadium.
