Current SX1 points leader Joey Savatgy has defeated reigning champion Dean Wilson on count back to earn victory at Wollongong’s third round of the 2024 Fox Australian Supercross Championship.

It was another chaotic night of racing under the lights of WIN Stadium, with the first of three finals seeing Empire Kawasaki’s Luke Clout rise to a commanding victory ahead of Honda Racing duo Wilson and Aaron Tanti, while Jed Beaton (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy) and Savatgy rounded out the top five.

The second final was staged back-to-back with the opener, and this time it was Savatgy to who immediately took control. The Honda Racing import gapped the field before suffering a scare later in the race when he seemingly rode off the catch fence of the over-under bridge before going down on the landing.

Remarkably, he remounted to secure victory over Wilson and Clout, while Beaton claimed his second-straight P4 ahead of GasGas Racing Team’s Dylan Wills.

It was all to play for in the third and final of the evening, and it started with Clout being somewhat punted off the track in just the early stages, sending him down the order.

Savatgy was unstoppable as he rode away to a 3.234s victory over teammate Wilson, which was enough to level the overall points. Tanti stormed home for third ahead of an ever-consistent Beaton, as Clout rebounded for fifth.

Honda Racing duo Savatgy and Wilson rounded out the night each with 66 points, the win going the way of Savatgy while Clout was credited the final spot on the podium. Savatgy’s points lead remains at five as the series heads to Adelaide on 14-17 November for the penultimate round of the championship.
