CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Jed Beaton has earned a breakthrough victory today at Toowoomba’s sixth round of the 2024 Penrite ProMX Championship, although his points deficit to Kyle Webster (Honda Racing) remains the same after the pair finished equal on points.

Red plate holder Webster stormed to the opening moto holeshot with Caleb Ward (Husqvarna) – making a cameo appearance – and Luke Clout (Empire Kawasaki) in tow, while CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Jed Beaton found himself just inside the top 10.

Beaton swiftly moved the through pack, positioning himself in second by the end of the first lap before hunting down and passing Webster moments later. Beaton initially looked riding a level ahead Webster as he led the field, however the Honda rider maintained the gap as the laps started to countdown.

While the title rivals broke away from the field, Clout suffered a heavy crash at the beginning of the lap before remounting, while Nathan Crawford (KTM Racing Team) also went down in the early stages.

As the moto clicked over to lap 11, Webster pounced on Beaton, but it was only momentarily as the factory Yamaha rider fought back and reclaimed the top spot. Webster followed and eventually made the pass stick a lap later, this time powering away from the number 14.

Webster’s late-race pace proved too much for Beaton as he crossed the line with a convincing 7.448s margin, while Crawford recovered from his earlier crash to claim third. Kirk Gibbs (GasGas Racing Team) and Todd Waters (Raceline Husqvarna Tdub Racing) were fourth and fifth respectively, while the top 10 was completed by Ward, Zach Watson (Husqvarna), Joel Evans (Yamaha), Brett Metcalfe (Penrite Go24), and Luke Zielinski (Husqvarna).

Race two saw Crawford and Clout hit the lead early, as Webster uncharacteristically found himself deeper in the field. Beaton was just a few positions ahead, quickly making moves before eventually taking over the lead on lap three.

Webster seemingly struggled to make passes quickly in the early stages, allowing Beaton to break away and ride to a convincing 21.051s victory. Webster settled for second, as Crawford crossed the line in P3. It was a highly impressive ride from Ward to finish in fourth ahead of Clout, who encountered a trackside banner that became stuck in his rear wheel.

Sixth through to 10th was taken out by Waters, Watson, Gibbs, Metcalfe, and Levi Rogers (Beta). Overall it was Beaton from Webster – the pair still separated by just seven points – while Crawford earned the final spot on the podium.

ProMX will return to Queensland next month on 11 August, with MX Farm set to host the penultimate round of the championship.
