Teenager Kayden Minear has outlined plans to train and race in America at the conclusion of the Penrite ProMX Championship, which is set to form part of his 2024 Fox Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX) preparations.

The KTM Racing Team rider is expected to join KTM’s US amateur program to contest the Scouting Moto Combine at Ironman’s Pro Motocross finale, along with the Las Vegas SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) Finals in the 250 World All-Stars.

The 17-year-old, who completed a US training stint last year with KTM Group amateur program manager Daniel Blair, has been progressively building form throughout his current ProMX campaign following a severe arm injury sustained at the 2023 AUSX season-opener, which continued to impact him throughout the early stages of this year.

“We’re going to go off to America straight after the last round of the ProMX series,” Minear told MotoOnline. “We’re going to race a Combine outdoor race at Ironman, then we’ll stay in California for a couple of weeks and race the Las Vegas SuperMotocross final round. I think it will be very fun, and obviously it’s a bit of a supercross, so I’ll get my pre-season supercross training up in Cali and then come back and race Australian Supercross as well.”

With ProMX scheduled to conclude at QMP on August 17-18, Minear will turn his attention to Pro Motocross at Ironman Raceway one week later on August 24 to line up at the second Combine of the year. The SMX finals will be staged at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway almost a full month later on September 21, three weeks out from Redcliffe’s opening round of AUSX on October 12-13.

The Western Australian finished third overall at Murray Bridge’s fifth round of ProMX last weekend, positioning him fourth in the championship standings as the series heads to Toowoomba, Queensland, on 21 July. That was his second podium of the year after claiming P2 at Gillman.
