Australian rookie Jett Lawrence will enter Denver’s penultimate round of the 2024 Monster Energy Supercross Championship with his first opportunity to clinch the 450SX title on Saturday night.

Lawrence, 20, has won seven main events over the course of the first 15 rounds, carrying a 12-point advantage over Cooper Webb into round 16 of the season in Colorado.

After Webb managed to match Lawrence on points following his fourth win of the year at Foxborough last month, Team Honda HRC’s Lawrence has been able to stretch out his points lead again by earning commanding victories in both Nashville and Philadelphia.

For Lawrence to seal the premier class championship early and with a round to spare via a victory within Empower Field at Mile High stadium, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s two-time champion Webb would need to finish in 10th position or worse this weekend.

However, it’s more complex than that since another Yamaha-mounted former double champion in Eli Tomac and number one plate-holder Chase Sexton (Red Bull KTM) are also both still within mathematical contention. If either of those riders win, Lawrence only needs to finish in at least 13th place to rule Tomac out and P15 to bump Sexton out of the title race.
