After claiming runner-up in the SX1 class of the Fox Australian Supercross Championship (AUSX) with Matt Moss last season, BBR has opted to bench its 2023 program just one month out from the opening round in Adelaide.

Former champion Moss almost added another national title to his collection as he missed out by just one point to Justin Brayton (Honda Racing) come season-end at Wagga Wagga, winning two rounds of the four contested.

It was intended that Moss would compete in the 2023 World Supercross Championship (WSX) with the FXR ClubMX Yamaha team, plus the AUSX championship with BBR, however, he has since been linked to an assortment of manufacturer-backed official teams locally.

Moss did contest the opening round of World Supercross in Birmingham and is expected to continue at ClubMX in what remaining rounds eventuate, but with uncertainty surrounding upcoming WSX rounds, the decision was made for the number 102 to pursue a factory-supported seat for the Australian championship to ensure the best possible opportunity for his career.

“After a couple of weeks of thinking about it and the uncertainty surrounding WSX rounds, which were committed to our rider, I decided to pull the handbrake on our 2023 supercross campaign,” explained BBR team owner Bayden Blanchette, who had collaborated with Moss in operating the BBR 102 Motorsports Yamaha team in 2022.

“With mutual agreement between myself and Matt, we decided financially it was best to explore opportunities in the domestic industry for a factory seat to ensure he was able to support his family with a solid income and the opportunity to focus solely on training full-time to be in the best position to win the title.

“I feel our platform of really good people in our corner is too solid not to go racing as a team in the near future and will make a further call in the next week or two on how that looks.”

Gates drop on the 2023 Australian Supercross Championship in Adelaide on 7 October, with round one of the series just over one month away.
