Dennis and Cannon victorious in MX3 and MXW categories.
Defending MX2 champion Wilson Todd (Honda Racing) has extended his points lead after a perfect 1-1 scorecard at Gillman’s fifth round of the 2023 Penrite ProMX Championship in South Australia.
The opening MX2 moto was a thrilling affair as the battle for the win came down to the final moments, although it was Todd who kept rival Nathan Crawford (KTM Racing Team) at bay to secure another race victory.
The pair were locked in a battle for the entirety of outing, and despite several attempts on the final lap, Crawford never managed to lead the defending champion in what was a brilliant defensive effort from Todd.
GasGas Racing Team’s Noah Ferguson put in a consistent performance for third, while Serco Yamaha duo Rhys Budd and Jesse Dobson completed the top five.
Race two was yet another dominant performance from Todd, the Queenslander leading from start to finish in what was a flawless outing.
Crawford was forced to work his way to P2, eventually moving past Brodie Connolly (Honda Racing), however by that stage it was too late to make an attack on Todd. Connolly held on for third, ahead of Ferguson and Budd.
Overall, it was Todd who claimed the overall ahead of Crawford and Ferguson, strengthening his points lead to 37.
GasGas-mounted Byron Dennis was initially credited victory in the MX3 category, however a post-race penalty to Empire Kawasaki’s Cambell Williams saw a shake up in the classification following podium celebrations.
GYTR Yamaha Junior Racing’s Jake Cannon was ultimately awarded the overall victory on count-back, equalling points with Dennis, while Kayd Kingsford (Yamaha) was promoted to third.
It was a dominant display from reigning champion Charli Cannon (Yamalube Yamaha Racing) in the MXW category to secure another round victory, the top three completed by Honda Racing duo Emma Milesevic and Tahlia O’Hare.
