Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado scored his first overall victory of the 2023 MXGP World Championship to retain the red plate at round four, as Andrea Adamo secured a maiden MX2 round win with a consistent showing at Pietramurata.

Prado stood tall thanks to 1-3 results, with the fast starts that have become synonymous with the Spaniard setting him up for two strong motos. Monster Energy Yamaha’s Maxime Renaux missed the round win by a single point, landing 2-2 finishes on the day in Trentino.

Involved in a multi-rider fall during the early stages of moto one, Jeffrey Herlings (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) recovered to ninth in that outing before a commanding victory in race two elevated him to P3 for the round, as Ruben Fernandez (Team HRC) and Mattia Guadagnini (Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing) completed the top five with 3-7 and 4-10 scores respectively.

Notably, a troubled first moto for qualifying race winner Romain Febvre (Kawasaki Racing Team) saw him finish a lowly P12, but the Frenchman was able to conclude the round seventh overall after a fourth-place finish in race two.

In terms of the 2023 MXGP World Championship standings after four rounds, Prado leads on 201 ahead of Renaux (184) and Herlings (175).

A pair of second-place finishes were enough to land Adamo a breakthrough MX2 grand prix victory, leading his teammate Liam Everts (3-3) in what was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 1-2.

The runner-up marks Everts first podium in the class, as red-plate holder Jago Geerts was third on the day after winning the opening moto, then salvaging P7 in race two after a fall in the early stages and being hit twice by other riders.

Moto two and qualifying race winner Simon Laengenfelder (Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing) was fourth overall after a P9 finish in moto one, as the hard-charging Kay de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing) completed the top five thanks to 5-4 scores.

Geerts continues to lead the championship standings, now on 205 points, with Adamo (183) second and a single point ahead of Thibault Benistant in third, the Monster Energy Yamaha rider finishing sixth overall at round four with 4-5 results.
