Immediate racing future confirmed following hand injury last year.
An entry in the remaining 2023 Monster Energy Supercross Championship rounds is on the cards for Australia’s Hayden Mellross, surfacing in the US to compete in the premier 450SX category.
Mellross represented the GasGas Racing Team domestically last year, but his Australian Supercross campaign was cut short due to a hand injury sustained at the Newcastle round.
Until this point, his racing future was publicly unannounced and he has not contested any major event in Australia to date in the 2023 season, but is expected to commence his competitive stint in the US at the upcoming Glendale round on 9 April.
“Well, this has been about six months’ worth of planning but we are finally here in the USA!” said Mellross. “The plan is to race the last six rounds of AMA Supercross on the 450. I have worked so hard coming back from injury and with a small group of great people beside me I’m excited to see what we can accomplish. Let’s have some fun!”
While the exact infrastructure and dynamic of Mellross’s effort in the US remain unclear, in his announcement he is pictured with a KTM 450 SX-F. He has previous experience racing in the US, last competing in the AMA onboard a YZ250F in 2018, contesting both 250SX West and Pro Motocross races that year.
