Queensland-based talent targets healthy return for 2023 season.
Serco Yamaha’s Jesse Dobson has undergone shoulder surgery following dislocations across recent races and will be ruled out of the 2022 Australian Supercross (AUSX) Championship as he recovers.
Dobson dislocated his shoulder at the Queensland Motocross Championships in Rockhampton but pushed through one week later to land third overall at round seven of ProMX at Queensland Moto Park (QMP). He has been dealing with shoulder issues since round three at Albury.
The number 14 started the first moto at Coolum’s finals well and was inside the top three prior to his shoulder dislocating through the rollers. He then pulled back into the pits, had it put back into place and remarkably continued the race in an attempt to score points before he was black-flagged. A fall while running second in the final bout brought an end to his charge.
“I was lucky enough that Steve Andrews and Sally were there on the weekend and I got talking to them straight after the second race about my shoulder,” Dobson said to MotoOnline. “First thing Monday, I saw them and they pushed me forward to get surgery yesterday.
“I’m actually sitting in hospital right now and we got the shoulder fixed up with a full reconstruction. Time to heal up now and she’ll be 100 percent for next year which is good.”
Despite a zero points haul from the final round, Dobson still finished fourth overall in the 2022 ProMX MX2 standings with multiple podium finishes to his credit. With the 2022 AUSX spanning from 21 October to 3 December, he is focused firmly on a strong return next year.
“By the looks of it, I’m out for supercross and I’m going to be doing everything I can to get back on the bike as soon as possible, but when you look at all things, I won’t line up for any supercross this year,” he added.
“I’m pretty devastated about that because I feel supercross is my thing, but my main goal is to get back to 110 percent healthy and try and go after the championship next year and clean up the mistakes from this year.”
It is unclear who Serco Yamaha will draft to replace Dobson for the 2022 domestic supercross season alongside team regular Bailey Malkiewicz in SX2.
