The fields are set for the opening round of the 2022 ProMX Championship.
Honda Racing’s pairing Kyle Webster and Wilson Todd have set the early qualifying pace at the opening round of the 2022 Penrite ProMX Championship at Wonthaggi, Vic.
Under sunny conditions, Webster fired the first salvo of the series with a searing qualifying time of 1m39.154s in the Thor MX1 Top 10 Shotout
Webster’s convincing time set the bar for the rest of his rivals, as he beat CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team’s Aaron Tanti by 0.75 seconds, with Husqvarna Racing Team’s Todd Waters rounding out the top three.
Defending ProMX champion, Luke Clout (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team), finished fourth, ahead of KTM Racing Team’s Kirk Gibbs.
Go24 KTM racer Brett Metcalfe finished sixth-fastest in the Top 10 Shootout, ahead of Hayden Mellross (GasGas Racing Team) and Lochie Latimer (KTM).
Jayden Rykers (Empire Kawasaki) and Dean Ferris (Honda Racing) both had incidents during the short qualifying session and finished ninth and 10th respectively
Terrafirma Equipment Sales Honda’s Wilson Todd set a cracking pace in the Pirelli MX2 qualifying session, with a lap time that was more than half a second faster than his rivals.
Todd’s time of 1m42.839s signalled that he’s indeed the championship favourite this year, finishing ahead of a legion of Yamahas.
A fast-finishing Alex Larwood (Yamalube Yamaha Racing) jumped up to second position on the final lap, ahead of Bailey Malkiewicz (Serco Yamaha).
Serco Yamaha’s Jesse Dobson, WBR Yamaha’s Ryder Kingsford and Yamalube Yamaha’s Rhys Budd rounded out the top six.
Positions seventh through to 10th were filled by Noah Ferguson (GasGas Australia), Liam Andrews (V83 RedRide Honda), Blake Fox (GasGas Racing Team) and Dylan Wills (Husqvarna Racing Team.
