Announcement marks an end to successful four-year stint in red.
Experienced South Australian Brett Metcalfe has revealed that he has officially departed Honda Racing ahead of the 2022 season, bringing a close to his four-year tenure with the team.
Metcalfe, now 37, achieved multiple podium results during the stint that began in 2018, most recently in winning the season-opening moto of last year’s outdoors at Wonthaggi before ultimately finishing the year in P6.
The seasoned contender previously indicated his motivations to continue racing in 2022 despite Honda signing a new-look combination of Kyle Webster and Dean Ferris in MX1, demonstrating that he still has what it takes to be competitive by achieving third overall at the recent AMX MX Open.
“After four solid years of racing, it’s time to announce that my time with Honda Racing and Honda Motorcycles has come to a close,” Metcalfe confirmed. “I respect the direction they are going and wish them all the best!
“A team often becomes family and that’s what it’s felt like with the KMG group – the friendships made along the way are always cherished.
“To the mechanics and managers over the years, you guys were all awesome and thank you for getting it done for me day in day out and keeping it together.”
No plans have been formally announced in regards to what’s next for Metcalfe in 2022, with two and half months remaining before the 2022 ProMX Championship opener set for Wonthaggi, VIC, on 27 March.
