Multiple national champion Wilson Todd will return to Australia for the 2022 season after being named at the defending champion Honda Racing team within the MX2 category of Penrite ProMX, in addition to Australian Supercross.

According to Honda, the deal is for next year ‘and beyond’, however, specifics haven’t been announced. After winning the 2018 and 2019 outdoor titles locally, 23-year-old Todd has spent the past two seasons in the world championship with Dixon Kawasaki.

“I enjoyed my time in Europe and I was proud of the results we achieved against the factory team,” Todd commented after finishing 12th in this year’s world championship. “I finished as high as fourth in a race, we had a top five overall finish and several top 10s.

“There is an age limit in the MX2 class and I turn 24 before next year’s championship starts, which makes me ineligible. I was faced with some hard decisions and, in the end, the best decision for me was to come home and race. My focus is to win the MX2 and SX2 Australian championship, but I hope to do a race or two overseas through Yarrive’s contacts and team internationally.”

Todd will focus on the Australian championship in 2022 and could also potentially enter select rounds of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross when the schedule suits. Honda Racing director Yarrive Konsky welcomed Todd, who replaces MX1-bound Kyle Webster in the program. Teenager Ben Novak will also be supported by Honda Racing in MX2.

“I wanted Wilson as he is an exceptional rider,” Konsky stated. “We didn’t enter discussions with any other MX2 riders – I patiently waited because Honda believed Wilson was their only choice to contend for a championship on the new CRF250R.”
