Australian Hunter Lawrence admits first-lap crashes in both 250MX motos of High Point’s Lucas Oil Pro Motocross national ‘ruined’ what could’ve been a promising weekend.

The Team Honda HRC rider displayed blistering pace in the early stages of the day, setting the second-fastest time in qualifying before going onto secure the hole-shot in the opening encounter.

Lawrence over-shot a berm on the opening lap and was demoted to the rear of the field, recovering for an impressive eighth, while in the final race, he once again crashed on lap one before mounting a charge back to 11th for eighth overall.

“Today was one of those days,” Lawrence stated. “Everything started off really good, except for the first-lap crashes in both motos. Starts were great, I was riding well and [I] qualified second.

“I was up front in the first moto after getting the hole-shot – I battled with Jalek [Swoll] in the first lap, but unfortunately, I gained a little too much speed downhill and crashed, putting me way back. My crashes ruined my overall results for the day, ending up eighth, but we’ll regroup and get ready for RedBud.”

Lawrence holds down third in the championship standings, 42 points behind series leader and younger brother Jett Lawrence (Team Honda HRC).
