MX2 challenger increases seat time in the lead up to round three.
Husqvarna rider Dylan Wills expects to be at full fitness by Gillman’s third round of the 2021 Penrite ProMX Championship later this month after recently overcoming a collarbone injury.
The popular New South Welshman broke his collarbone at a pre-season event in Queensland just weeks out from Wonthaggi’s season-opener, where he was later forced to undergo surgery.
Wills gritted his way through round one, however the injury still hindered his preparation for Canberra by limiting him to minimal seat time between rounds. Despite this, the number 64 recorded an impressive 4-10 scorecard for sixth overall.
With four weeks between rounds two and three, the 25-year-old has already elevated his weekly on the bike training to a normal schedule, as he now anticipates being at 100 percent fitness for the South Australian round.
“Once the injury happened I started to look at dates and see what was when, and I think Gillman was always the goal to be at full fitness,” Wills said to MotoOnline.com.au. “I knew Canberra was going to be rough, but surprisingly, I did pretty good considering.
“I think Gillman will be a step in the right direction – I’ve already had a pretty big week on the bike last week, and I’ve noticed a difference with the numbers as far as bike fitness goes.
“You never really lose that speed or ability to go fast, I think it’s just trying to get that race fitness back – you know, when that intensity gets and trying to maintain a level of focus and finish strong in the races.”
Gillman’s third stop of the eight-round series is scheduled for 30 May in South Australia.
