Ficeda Accessories press release:
Dunlop riders have dominated the Supercross season opener, with Americans Justin Brayton and Jacob Hayes taking overall wins in both the SX1 and SX2 classes. Not to be outdone by the imports, CDR Yamaha Monster Energy riders Dan Reardon and Luke Clout secured second and third overall respectively in SX1, while Serco Yamaha’s Aaron Tanti backed up his teammate for second in SX2. Protected from the elements in the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, round one provided some intense bar-to-bar racing, setting the tone for a competitive season ahead.
With Brayton dominating from the outset, setting the fastest time in qualifying, winning his heat and superpole, the Honda rider went on to two main event wins, and once again leads the championship. Our Aussie contingent of Dunlop riders didn’t disappoint, with Luke Clout (2nd), Dan Reardon (3rd) and Jesse Dobson (4th) securing the remaining top four times in qualifying, but it was Clout who struck first, taking the heat-one win. Yamalube Yamaha’s Richie Evans took the B-Main win, and ultimately finished the weekend in eighth, while the CDR duo of Reardon (3-2) and Clout (4-3) took home second and third overall.
Dunlop Geomax MX33 front and rear was the tyre of choice across the day, with Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson opening the account with second in heat one, before the Serco pair of Hayes and Tanti took second and third in heat two. The tight indoor track left little margin for error, as Jay Wilson would find out, coming down in the first turn of A-Main race one and ultimately finishing the night fifth overall after 7-4 results. For Hayes, second in the first race, followed by the win in race two, secured the overall victory. NSW teammate Aaron Tanti took 3-3 results for second overall in SX2.
Dunlop Motorsport Manager Robbie Bugden: “It’s great to get behind a championship that brings racing to the heart of the city. Although the track was tight, any other venue would’ve had us in the elements tonight. Congratulations to Jacob Hayes and Aaron Tanti for the 1-2 finish in SX2, and of course Justin Brayton, Dan Reardon and Luke Clout for their 1-2-3 finish in SX1. Supercross always gives us some incredible stories, and, judging by tonight, not only will we see these five guys in the mix, but Jay Wilson, Jesse Dobson and Richie Evans have all shown that they have the potential to factor into these two championships. Adelaide is the next stop, and I’m looking forward to some more incredible racing.”
