Ficeda Accessories press release:
With round eight of the MX Nationals reduced to just one round of racing for each of the three championship classes, it was Serco Yamaha’s Nathan Crawford who excelled on the northern NSW circuit at Moree, taking a 2-1 result in the back-to-back sprint race format for the overall round win in the MX2 (250cc) class. CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Kirk Gibbs took second in the premier MX1 (450cc) class.
With Gibbs starting the race day strongly taking out superpole, and ultimately finishing the day in second, he looks to secure a top-three finish for the season in the MX1 class. His teammate and championship contender Luke Clout wasn’t so lucky, coming in ninth after working his way through the field from last place over the 16-lap moto. A standout ride from Yamalube Yamaha’s Richie Evans for fifth overall secures him a jump to eighth in the championship with just two rounds remaining.
Fitted with Dunlop Geomax MX33s front and rear, Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson (12-3) had a tough day with a crash relegating the title contender to fifth overall in the MX2 class. It was a different story for Serco Yamaha’s Nathan Crawford backing up his recently found form to take the MX2 overall win and continue towards a top-three championship result.
Serco Yamaha’s Nathan Crawford: “Today I had to work for it as there were bikes going everywhere at the start of moto one. Then in moto two, all the top riders were inside the top five and I was able to get through for the win. The championship is still a long shot with two rounds to go, but I will keep charging to the very end and try to win every race I go in and see where it puts me.”
Dunlop Motorsport Manager Robbie Bugden: “No-one wants to see racing abandoned; however, the decision was clearly to ensure the safety of the riders and I have to applaud officials and Williams Event Management (WEM) for making such a difficult decision for the right reasons. It would have been great to see all the classes line up again, with a number of Dunlop riders suffering in their first motos – such as Jay Wilson, Jesse Dobson and Luke Clout – but that’s all a part of racing. I was happy to see Richie Evans making the top five this weekend. He’s been working hard and deserves to see some results, racing against the most talented motocross racers in Australia. However, it was a standout ride for Jay Wilson in the MX2 class, regrouping after a crash, and subsequently being run into by other racers, to make 10 passes in seven laps in the first race of the day.”
