Motoview

The current week in dirt bikes, presented by Thor MX Australia.

The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship has hit the halfway mark, and there have been a number of interesting topics to follow. Welcome to Motoview presented by Thor MX Australia on MotoOnline.com.au.

With six rounds run and six round still to go, the chase for the premier class title in Pro Motocross has been developing nicely. Two-time defending champion Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki) leads at the front, holding a comfortable 26-point buffer over Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing).

Tomac has been surprisingly consistent throughout the opening half, although he does need to wary of Musquin, who’s making quite the resurgence with two consecutive victories. It doesn’t take much for a lead to unravel, but with quite a significant gap, it will be interesting to see how the number one handles the situation.

It appears that Ken Roczen’s (Team Honda HRC) mysterious health issues from supercross have resurfaced again, affecting him quite badly at Southwick. His points tally took a serious hit at the sandy venue, being demoted to third while positioned 28 points behind Tomac. While it’s not over, the German ace needs a number of things to go right for him in the back half of the year.

And how about Adam Cianciarulo’s (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) consistency in the 250MX category? Winning five of six rounds, the likeable contender has stretched out a 23-point lead. It’s without a doubt his strongest campaign yet, but he has close competition in Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha Star Racing duo Justin Cooper and Dylan Ferrandis.

Of course, there’s always tracking the progress of our Australian contenders! Dean Ferris (Monster Energy Yamaha) has solidified himself as a top 10 regular, and we’re intrigued as to what he can deliver in the second half. Geico Honda’s Hunter Lawrence has had mixed performances, although when he’s been on, he’s been on! Such as picking a maiden race victory at High Point.

That’s it for this week, we’ll catch you next Wednesday with another Motoview presented by Thor MX Australia feature! In the meantime stay tuned to MotoOnline.com.au for the latest daily content and be sure to follow us on social media via @motoonline on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
