Factory Kawasaki rider confirmed for New Zealand supercross.
Recently confirmed to contest the Monster Energy AUS-X Open Melbourne, Joey Savatgy has now been added to the S-X Open Auckland line-up, which will mark round one of the S-X Open International FIM Oceania Supercross Championship and round four of the Australian Supercross Championship.
A stellar 2019 Monster Energy AMA Supercross campaign saw the 26-year-old take out top rookie honours in the premier class, and now Savatgy is looking to secure his maiden 450 main event win by taking it to his international counterparts at Mount Smart Stadium in New Zealand 16 November.
“It’ll be tough, there are quite a few big names going over and I’m going to have to get everything dialled in straight away,” said Savatgy.
“Obviously, starts are huge and if you can get off the gate and put yourself in a position to win right away, that will go a long way against those guys. It’ll be fast-paced and it’ll be full of action, exactly what the fans want!”
As the event enters its second year, Savatgy will be added to what is forming to be the best international supercross line-up New Zealand has ever seen, joining Chad Reed (JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing) and Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing), along with three-time Australian supecross champion Justin Brayton (Penrite Honda Racing).
The Greatest of all Time (GOAT) Ricky Carmichael will go up against former world champion and New Zealand fan-favourite Ben Townley in what will be the first time the pair have raced side-by-side since 2005. Tickets officially go on sale on 26 June, for more information, visit www.sxopen.com.
