Ficeda Accessories press release:
Wonthaggi, in Victoria’s south-east, hosted the second round of the MX Nationals over the weekend, where the Dunlop-supported CDR Yamaha Monster Energy’s Luke Clout worked hard for his maiden MX1 overall victory.
Teammate Kirk Gibbs continued to accumulate points with a fourth overall result. In the MX2, a three-race format saw Serco Yamaha’s Aaron Tanti race to second overall, and Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson fourth in the highly competitive class.
A wet and muddy start straight, combined with a loose, sandy racetrack, saw the majority of Dunlop riders electing to use a combination of Dunlop Geomax MX33 front and MX12 rear tread pattern to ensure optimum drive off the start, while also providing stable cornering through the loamy surface.
MX1 racer Luke Clout persevered to claim victory, despite two in-race time penalties, in the challenging conditions: “The track was thick and heavy today, and staying upright and carrying speed was the key. The first straight and turn was so slippery, and getting through there was half the battle as track position was so important.”
In the MX2 class, Serco Yamaha’s Aaron Tanti had a solid weekend, with a 2-9-4 result giving the NSW-based racer second overall, and he clocked the fastest lap in the first moto of the day: “In the past, softer or sand tracks haven’t been my strong point and I have struggled to get the results I need on those style of tracks, so it was good to ride well here in these conditions and get on the podium.”
Dunlop Motorsport Manager Robbie Bugden: “The MX Nationals continue to throw demanding conditions at our racers, and it’s great to know that the Dunlop range of tyres is more than able to cope with those demands, even under the requirements that the fastest motocross racers in Australia need. The majority of our team riders chose the Geomax MX12 pattern on the rear to really dig into the loose ‘soft’ soil around the circuit and the mud off the start, while the MX33 continues to be the choice of tyre for just about all racing conditions at the top level. Congratulations to Luke on his first MX1 overall. We’re sure it will be the first of many.”
