Ficeda Accessories press release:
While AMA and World Supercross Champion Jason Anderson took the final round win of the Australian Supercross Championship, it was Penrite Honda’s Justin Brayton that held out his teammate Brett Metcalfe and Yamaha’s Dan Reardon to take home the SX1 Championship in front of a packed AUS-X Open, in Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena, for a Geomax 1-2-3 finish.
The SX2 Championship came down to the wire after Penrite Honda’s Cameron McAdoo took the round honours, giving Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson the championship win by just six points over DPH Husqvarna’s Hayden Mellross, followed by Serco Yamaha’s Jacob Hayes for another Dunlop 1-2-3 championship.
A 1-1-1 result for Jason Anderson sealed the round win, while DPH Husqvarna-mounted Dean Wilson went 3-3-2 for second overall, with Yamaha’s Dan Reardon (4-2-3) rounding out the all-Dunlop SX1 podium. Hinting that the weekend’s races may be the last time Chad Reed races on home soil, the longtime Dunlop racer was in the mix all weekend, even crossing the line first in the final race of the night, only to be denied the win after confirmation that he mistakenly used the Shannons Shortcut more than once over the three races.
Cameron McAdoo took the round overall with a consistent 2-2-2 result to overcome Jackson Richardson (6-1-1) and Hayden Mellross (5-3-3) in the action-packed SX2 class. Dylan Wills and Jacob Hayes taking fourth and fifth respectively earned Dunlop four of the top five placings on the night, and ultimately seven of the top 10 placings in the championship.
Dunlop Motorsport Manager Robbie Bugden: “What a season it’s been. Every round has been action-packed and full of drama as racers in both classes battled it out. I couldn’t be prouder to see our products not only secure the top spot in both the SX1 and SX2 classes, but the top three, and even further to that, seven of the top ten placings in both classes! The Dunlop Geomax family of tyres is the result of countless hours of testing and racing. Results like these further strengthen our resolve to bring to market the best possible products, so everyone can have the best experience possible when they’re on the bike, regardless of the level they ride at. I’d like to congratulate Justin Brayton and the Penrite Honda Team, along with Jay Wilson and the Yamalube Yamaha Team for securing their respective SX1 and SX2 Championships. A lot of hard work and dedication goes into racing at this level and it’s great to see two riders, both with young families, succeed.”
