Ficeda Accessories release:
Hometown hero Brett Metcalfe from the Penrite Honda team has headlined Dunlop’s domination of round four presented by Dunlop of the 2018 Australian Supercross Championship staged at Adelaide’s Gillman Raceway on Saturday night (October 20).
Proving yet again Dunlop Geomax are the tyres to beat, Metcalfe, who is a decorated veteran of international motocross and supercross competition, used 5-1-1 scores in the triple-crown format races at Gillman to lead home teammate and defending two-time Australian supercross champion, Justin Brayton (1-7-3) in the SX1 standings. Brayton continues to lead the SX1 championship, by just six points from Metcalfe.
American racer Jace Owens (Kawasaki) netted third overall, followed by Dunlop riders Dylan Long (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy) and Dan Reardon (Yamaha Australia), giving Dunlop four of the top five placings in SX1 at Gillman.
In the SX2 category, Dunlop again swept the top two steps of the podium, with Hayden Mellross (DPH Motorsport Husqvarna) charging to wins in the night’s first two finals, then coming home second in the third final seal the round victory. Another Dunlop rider, Jacob Hayes (Serco Yamaha) snared second overall at Gillman.
SX2 championship leader and Dunlop rider Jay Wilson (Yamalube Yamaha) fought back from two seventh places in races one and two to win the final moto at Gillman and take fourth overall, and in the process maintain his lead in the SX2 championship standings. Wilson Todd (Serco Yamaha) finished fifth overall, to again give Dunlop four of the top five placings in SX2 at Gillman.
In the Junior Lites division local SA rider and freshly crowned Australian Junior Motocross champion, Alex Larwood (GYTR Yamaha Junior Racing) made his supercross debut at Gillman, and promptly swept all three moto’s in his class to deliver another convincing Dunlop victory.
Dunlop Motorsport Manager Robbie Bugden: “As presenting sponsor of round four of the 2018 Australian Supercross Championship at Gillman Raceway, Dunlop could not be more excited to have dominated the night’s competition. Brett Metcalfe’s overall victory in SX1 was a total hit with his home-town crowd, while Justin Brayton kept his cool despite a crash in race two to come home second on the night and keep his championship lead intact. It was great to see Hayden Mellross put his Husqvarna on the top of the SX2 podium, and to see Jay Wilson keep Dunlop on top of the SX2 championship table by fighting back with a win in the final moto. And for Alex Larwood to come out and dominate Junior Lights in his first-ever supercross in front of a hometown crowd, that was the icing on the cake for a night of Dunlop domination that proves yet again the Dunlop Geomax tyre range sets the pace.”
After four stunning outdoor and stadium rounds in Queensland, Victoria and South Australia, the 2018 Australian Supercross Championship now moves indoors for the fifth and final round, the Aus-X Open at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, NSW, on Saturday, November 10.
