Dunlop domination continues in Geelong

Ficeda Accessories press release:

Serco Yamaha’s Wilson Todd (SX2) and Penrite Honda’s Justin Brayton (SX1) took home the trophies in Geelong’s third round of the Australian Supercross Championship, held in GMHBA Stadium. The three-race, triple-crown format saw three different winners in the SX2 class, while SX1 saw both Brayton and Brett Metcalfe take wins, all fitted with Dunlop Geomax tyres.

Justin Brayton once again showed why he’s the reigning champion, taking two of the three race wins, while his team mate Metcalfe took the other. Yamaha’s Dan Reardon put in a consistent effort all night to take third overall, once again giving Dunlop a 1-2-3 finish in the premier class.

Justin Brayton: “Wow, this round really tested me. I did not ride all week. I got sick, really sick and I genuinely didn’t know how tonight was going to play out. Whilst the second final wasn’t ideal, I will admit that I enjoyed the challenge of racing through the field. Metty is riding well and I am glad that we have placed Honda first in every final. There is still a lot of racing left and many points up for grabs. You cannot give anything up in this championship and that’s something really exciting for the fans and nerve wrecking for the riders.”

Action-packed SX2 racing saw three different winners in the triple crown format, with Serco’s Wilson Todd, Yamalube Yamaha’s Jay Wilson and DPH Husqvarna’s Hayden Mellross each taking line honours. Consistency was key, though, with Wilson Todd, Jacob Hayes and Jay Wilson rounding out the podium and retaining the championship lead.

Dunlop Motorsport Manager Robbie Bugden: “Troy Bayliss Events did an amazing job, bringing supercross to a full size stadium and getting a bumper crowd! We have some amazing talent and it’s been great to see the series produce great racing. With a double podium lockout, we’ve got a lot to smile about this week as the Geomax range from Dunlop continues to prove to be the market leader. Brett Metcalfe has been there every round this season, so to see him cross the line first in the second SX1 main was great to see. SX2 continues to throw everything at us! Three winners from three bar-to-bar races just goes to show that the future is looking strong in Australia.”

The Australian Supercross Championship now heads to Gillman Raceway in South Australia for the fourth round this Saturday!
