DPH Motorsport rider adamant on keeping title hopes alive.
SX2 title contender Hayden Mellross will line-up at this weekend’s second stop of the Australian Supercross Championship in Coolum, Queensland, despite undergoing surgery to repair damage to a toe on his right foot.
Mellross suffered fractures to multiple toes across both feet ahead of Jimboomba’s opener where he salvaged fourth in the main event, initially opting out of surgery in favour of completing round one.
Upon further examination between rounds, the DPH Motorsport Husqvarna ace underwent an operation last week to allow him the best opportunity of continuing through the championship.
“It has been a roller coaster few weeks with everything thrown at me,” Mellross explained. “Breaking both my big toes definitely wasn’t in my plans. After surgery last week I’ve managed to push through the pain and hard times and now it’s time to have some fun! I’m excited to go racing again this weekend for round two and looking forward to seeing everyone there.”
Mellross’ spirited showing at Jimboomba has ultimately kept him in title contention, with just five rounds in the series to earn an elusive crown.
