Australian credited second on countback in German motocross finale.
Youthful Australian talent Jett Lawrence has earned the 2018 ADAC MX Youngster Cup after a finishing second at the final round of the German series in Holzgerlingen.
The Team Suzuki Germany rider was equal for first, however credited second on countback with a 1-7 scorecard after riding a conservative race in the final moto to secure championship honours.
“I was able to gain a few places on the first lap,” said Lawrence. “I found a good rhythm after that and was able to win the race. My start was not bad, and I was soon in the top 10. But after that, I didn’t take any unnecessary risks and got the title safely in the bag with seventh place.
“I still tied on points and got second for the Holzgerlingen round on countback, but my main goal was the ADAC championship and stoked to say I am the 2018 Youngster Cup winner in my rookie year on the 250.”
The Queensland native recently wrapped up his maiden Motocross European Championship campaign with a dominant 1-1 results sheet at Assen’s final stop of the EMX250 series, while he’s now set to head to America to join the Factory Connection Honda squad as older brother Hunter transitions to Geico Honda.
