Geelong and Port Adelaide rounds to host unique opportunity.
Following its success in the Pirelli MX Nationals, the Yamaha YZ65 Cup will make its debut in the upcoming Australian Supercross Championship.
The support class will be hosted at GMHBA Stadium’s third round in Geelong on 13 October before heading to Port Adelaide’s fourth stop one week later at Gillman Speedway.
Rounds two and three are operated by three-time world superbike champion Troy Bayliss, who’s thrilled to offer an incredible opportunity to a selection of fortunate youthful talents.
“We are pleased to be able to provide the opportunity for junior girls and boys to enjoy our events as much as we do, and to be able to ride a supercross track within a venue like GMHBA Stadium in front of thousands of fans is sure to help with the future of the sport,” Bayliss commented.
“Our commitment to juniors has been reaffirmed with the announcement last week of the 85s and Junior Lites joining SX1 and SX2 on track, and Troy Bayliss Events is pleased to say the 65s, 85s and Junior Lites will all contest finals during the Saturday night main programs at both the Geelong and Port Adelaide rounds.”
“Imagine being an eight, 12 or 16-year-old – your name is in the program and your set -p within the pits next to all the Australian factory teams plus the internationals who are here to race for the championships. Then to line up on the grid and look out to thousands of spectators, it will make the hairs on their neck stand up, even if they don’t have any.”
The Yamaha YZ65 Cup was hosted at Ranch MX’s double-header in New South Wales, along with a last-minute addition to Coolum’s MX Nationals finale. It was revealed in June that Yamaha Motor Australian would come on-board as a major sponsor of the Geelong round of supercross.
