Perfect Herlings goes 1-1 at MXGP of Switzerland
Prado victorious in MX2 as Lawrence returns to the podium.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings has lodged another perfect scorecard in the 2018 MXGP World Championship, charging to two commanding race wins at Frauenfeld in Switzerland for the 16th round of the series.
The Dutchman proved to be unstoppable in the grand prix and capitalised on an enduring round from rival Antonio Cairoli (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), extending his points lead to 58 markers.
In a return to form, Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre wound up in second with a 3-2 scorecard, while Clement Desalle (Monster Energy Kawasaki Factory Racing) closed out the podium in third.
Glenn Coldenhoff (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Max Anstie (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing) were fourth and fifth respectively, as Australian Todd Waters (Honda HRC) made improvements for 17th overall, placing as high as 15th in race one.
In the MX2 category, points leader Jorge Prado (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) was triumphant again after levelling on points with Pauls Jonass (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) – the Spaniard being credited victory on countback.
Australian Hunter Lawrence (114 Motorsport Honda) was highly-impressive in his return to the podium in third, which came after 5-3 moto finishes. Thomas Covington (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing) and Anthony Rodriguez (Kemea Yamaha Official MX2 Team) completed the top five.
Australian EMX250 contenders Jett Lawrence (Suzuki) and Caleb Grothues (Yamaha) were 17th and 19th overall in the ninth round of the European Motocross Championship. The MXGP World Championship will now head to Bulgaria this weekend for round 17 of the 20-stop series.
