Honda Australia press release:
Penrite-Pirelli CRF Honda Racings, Kyle Webster hammered to victory at the final round of the 2018 MX Nationals in Coolum, finishing the day with an almost perfect score in the MX2.
From qualifying, Webster made it clear he meant business and took his VP Racing fuelled Honda to P1, 1.2 seconds ahead of the next competitor.
In moto 1 Webster tucked into P6 around the first corner and worked his way up to 2nd place by mid race. After some very hot laps, Webster got within 6 seconds of P1 but had to settle for P2.
Moto 2 saw Webster charge right to the front early, gaining a ten second lead, claiming P1 overall for the round and his second overall round win for the Championship. Webster finished 7th overall in the MX2 Championship.
“I was so thrilled to take the win at Coolum. We have worked so hard this year and other than a few mishaps, we’ve shown that we are competitive. I want to congratulate Wilson Todd on winning this very competitive class (MX2) and look forward to having another crack at it in 2019,” said Webster.
Kale Makeham had a challenging round, finishing 13th in moto 1 and 10th in moto 2, resulting in 9th overall; “I found the track very challenging so I did my best to settle into it. This was my last race for the team this season so I want to thank them for the support and for giving me this opportunity,” said Makeham.
Team Principal Mark Luksich was pleased with the final round result; “It was great to go out on a high for Kyle and for the team. We sure had a challenging MX season but I am proud of our efforts. This class is stacked and Kyle got us two wins, more than all other riders excluding Wilson. Kyle’s very committed and hard-working and I am confident he has more rewards coming. Huge thanks to our partners for the support in this Championship and we look forward to the Supercross stage,” enthused Luksich.
