Queenslander improves for top 15 result at the 12th round.
Australian Todd Waters has declared his fitness still isn’t quite at an adequate level after being sidelined for number of weeks with a collarbone injury.
The Honda HRC rider improved his results at the weekend’s 12th round of the MXGP World Championship in Pangkal Pinang, Indonesia, where he wound up 15th overall after lodging a 15-14 scorecard.
The popular Queenslander recovered from an incident in race two, displaying promising pace as he negotiated his way through the field in what were brutal racing conditions.
“Race one was not the best as we came through but then faded back,” Waters explained. “I made a little bit of a game plan for the second moto, despite knowing that my fitness is still not quite there. Unfortunately I crashed on the first lap – a rider in front went into a rut and the bike folded on me.
“I came from 20th to 14th, which is not bad all things considered. Definitely not the result we wanted, but at this stage I will take all I can get and keep training hard in order to return to a good level of form.”
The MXGP World Championship returns to action again this weekend in Indonesia at Semarang, where Waters will have another opportunity to build his form with the factory Honda outfit.
