Frenchman charges to third at fifth Pro Motocross national of the year.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Marvin Musquin has declared that a race win is still not where he wants to be after battling to string together consistent finishes at the weekend’s fifth stop of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.
The Frenchman went down in race one at Muddy Creek, which ultimately damaged his hopes of demoting Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki) from the top step of the podium, despite his best efforts in moto two where he scored the race win.
Tomac has dominated the series as he vigorously defends his number one plate, which has become frustrating for Musquin, who’s endeavouring to claw back the points on the leader.
“It was a big bummer to go down in the first lap of moto one,” said Musquin. “I clipped someone’s rear wheel and couldn’t avoid it and crashed – it’s frustrating. I’ve been feeling really good, training really hard and working really hard with the team and it’s been paying off.
“I fought hard in the second moto and I knew that all I needed to do is get a good start, fight for it and not go down, so that’s what I did and I was able to control the race until the end.
“[It’s] one more moto win, still not what I want but that’s all I had today. I’m really happy, it’s not too bad for the championship even if we lose some points, it’s still a podium and we keep on working hard.”
Musquin is ranked second in the standings, 32 points short of Tomac as the series heads to Southwick this Saturday.
