Hunter Lawrence admits he struggled to adapt to the challenging conditions delivered by the Ottobiano circuit at the weekend’s 11th round of the MX2 World Championship in Italy.

After qualifying 14th, the talented Australian pushed through the brutal and sandy circuit for 11-12 race results, crediting him 12th overall for the round.

“I did the best I could, but overall I struggled big time this weekend with what was an extremely gnarly track,” Lawrence admitted. “I’ll keep working and look forward to the next rounds. The weekend off should benefit me as it’ll allow me to rest up a bit more and I’ll hopefully come back strong for Indonesia.”

The 114 Motorsport Honda rider claimed a thrilling podium at the season-opener in Argentina, however a hand injury at round four that sidelined the Queensland-native for a number of rounds has evidently dented his confidence with just three races under his belt since returning at Matterley Basin last month.

Lawrence holds down 14th in the championship standings as the MXGP contingent heads to Pangkal Pinang in Indonesia on 1 July.
