Collarbone surgery sidelines current points leader this weekend in Italy.
Current MXGP World Championship points leader Jeffrey Herlings has confirmed he’ll be absent from this weekend’s grand prix at Ottobiano in Italy after undergoing surgery on a broken collarbone.
It was reported yesterday that Herlings had suffered the injury in a practice crash, however it was only determined today that he will in fact be sidelined for the weekend.
“[A] little bump in the road,” said Herlings in a social media post. “We won’t be there this weekend for the fight, but we won’t give up on the war. If everything is going according to plan then we will be back on the bike by next weekend. Keep you guys posted.”
The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider holds a 62-point lead over teammate Antonio Cairoli after capturing eight overall victories in the first 10 rounds. Following this weekend’s 11th stop, the MXGP World Championship will have a week break before heading to Pangkal Pinang in Indonesia for the 12th round.
