Fogarty and McKay round out podium, Fox captures 250cc Juniors victory.
New Zealand’s Maximus Purvis has clinched his third-consecutive MXD victory at today’s fifth round of the Pirelli MX Nationals in Murray Bridge, South Australia.
The Altherm JCR Yamaha rider earned a hard-fought win in race one, overcoming Morgan Fogarty (KTM) by slender 0.632s in what was a thrilling moto.
Bulk Nutrients WBR Yamaha’s Hugh McKay settled into third, a further 12 seconds behind the leaders, while Riley Dukes (Husqvarna) and Bailey Malkiewicz (Bulk Nutrients WBR Yamaha) rounded out the top five.
It was another showdown between Purvis and Fogarty in the final outing as the pair charged to the flag, this time just 0.948s separating them at the line.
McKay put in another consistent performance for third, crediting him third overall behind Fogarty and Purvis, as it was Dukes and Rhys Budd (Honda) who concluded the first five in race two. Malkiewicz experienced issues of his own, and as a result of track signage getting caught up in his rear wheel, he could only muster up 13th for the race.
The 250cc Juniors class received a shake up when round one victor Regan Duffy (KTM) suffered a heavy crash in the opening moto, allowing Blake Fox (KTM) to capitalise and earn the overall victory with a 4-2 scorecard.
Western Australian Corben Weinert (Husqvarna) wound up in second overall ahead of Liam Andrews (Yamaha), while Duffy recovered for the race two victory, crediting him eighth for the day. The MX Nationals will now head into a month-long break before returning to action 1 July at Conondale in Queensland.
