Malkiewicz ties for victory as Duffy earns back to back 125cc Junior Cup wins.
Altherm JCR Yamaha’s Maximus Purvis has earned his second-consecutive MXD overall victory in today’s fourth round of the Pirelli MX Nationals at Wonthaggi in Victoria, with a repeat of results from Saturday’s third round granting him the top spot on countback over Bailey Malkiewicz (Bulk Nutrients WBR Yamaha).
In the opening moto it was Malkiewicz who stormed to the chequered flag first with a 3.019s advantage over Purvis, while a further 25.988s behind sat Honda-mounted rookie Rhys Budd.
There was a tight battle for fourth between Hugh McKay (WBR Bulk Nutrients Yamaha) and Morgan Fogarty (KTM) as just 0.297s separated them across the line, but it was McKay who had the advantage to seal greater position.
Purvis returned the favour to Malkiewicz in a rain-filled second outing, defeating the MX Nationals newcomer by 7.870s to ultimately be awarded the overall win. Penrite Honda Racing’s Callum Norton secured third in moto two as Fogarty claimed fourth, crediting him third overall, while Mason Rowe (KTM) completed the top in the final affair.
In the 125cc Junior Cup, Western Australian Regan Duffy (KTM) once again proved to be a class above the field, taking home two convincing race victories to ultimately be credited the overall for the second day running.
Noah Ferguson (KTM) was second after tying on points with Korey McMahon (KTM), who edged out Blake Fox (KTM) and Liam Andrews (Yamaha) for the final spot on the podium.
The next stop on the MX Nationals tour is scheduled for 27 May at Murray Bridge in South Australia, where the 250cc Juniors support class will join the MX1, MX2 and MXD championship classes.
