Penrite CRF Honda Racing’s Jackson Richardson will undergo further medical examinations when he returns to Brisbane this coming week after dislocating his shoulder during yesterday’s second moto at Wonthaggi’s Pirelli MX Nationals.

The injury ultimately sidelined him for today’s edition of the double-header stop in Victoria, and while the severity is still unclear, it could potentially sideline the Queenslander for the remaining rounds of the motocross series.

Admitting the injured area felt tender today, Richardson is hopeful of returning to racing as soon as possible, but is most importantly hoping he’ll be fit for his Australian Supercross Championship defence, which is scheduled to start in mid September.

“I dislocated my shoulder in the second moto yesterday, and today it’s pretty tender,” Richardson told MotoOnline.com.au. “Right now my plan is to head back to Brisbane and see a specialist, get some scans, get it checked out and see what the extent of it is.

“From there I’ll make decision whether to come back for Murray Bridge or stay out for a bit longer to let it heal. I’ll see how bad it is before I go making any plans. Unfortunately this isn’t my first shoulder injury – I’ve done it a couple of times.

“I just have to take it easy and see what kind of damage there is in there. It sucks – the second year in a row I’ve gone out with an injury. I’ve got to look forward and hopefully I’ll be back for some outdoors, but it will be good to be back for supercross to defend the championship.”

The MX Nationals series returns to action next Sunday, 27 May, at Murray Bridge in South Australia before heading into an month-long break.
